Oven.

Sunday night I was excited. I was due a text to tell me what slot time our new dishwasher was going to be delivered. Their delivery times were between 07.00am to 730pm. I hoped it would not be at 07.00am as I would be at work until 08.00am and if it was the first slot time, it would mean that Paul would have to get up, and he does not do mornings, I do mornings. As I was thinking about it Sunday evening, I got a text to tell me, "Your delivery time will be between 2pm and 5pm, phew, that was a perfect time. I reminded Paul, "You will need to drain out the water and disconnect it." It seemed like it was easy money for the men who would be bringing in the new one and taking away the old one, and also reconnecting the new one for £50.
They came 7 minutes early. The dogs went berserk! I reassured the men, "They are secure in their cages." They carried the slim line black dishwasher into the house and within 5 minutes they were done! I was glad that we had paid to have the old one removed.
I looked at it, everyting was in a different place at the front, I put salt in and rinse aid. The dirty dishes, they were ready to put in. Paul had been washing up, but didn't Sunday night after he had cooked us all a wonderfull Sunday dinner.
I loaded the slimline dishwasher, it looked a lot smaller than the one we had before. I did the top first and then then the bottom. I then tried to close the dishwasher, but noticed the propeller that is under the top basket did not move round but it hit the dinner plates! I was instantly annoyed! I went and said to Paul, "The slimline dishwasher is too small, the plates don't fit in it," I have going to phone them, to come and take it back and give us one that plates can fit in! I could already see me writing all about it all over Social Media!!! Paul said, "Don't make a big deal about it, I will wash the plates and then put them on the top shelf, on top of each other." A thousand thoughts went through my mind, and I said, "But it's called a DISHwasher, I am going to phone them and ask them to come and get it, thank goodness we have insurance!" It was Paul, who had done all his research and chosen the dishwasher. He got up and came into the kitchen and opened the door to the dishwasher, he slid out the top shelf and looking at the clips on either side, he unclipped them, and lifted the top tray, and hey presto, just like that we had plenty of room for the large dishes below and the propeller did not now touch the plates.
We had taken out a 3 year cover, Paul had told me before we bought it, "For one year's cover it would be £45 and for 3 years it would be £89 so we went for the 3 years. On the front of the machine there was a large sticker, reminding us to, "Register for your FREE 10 year parts guarantee call free now," And the phone number. That sounded too good to be true.
The following day, I took all the paperwork to work and in my lunch break I rang them. I said to the man, "I am ringing to register for my free 10 year parts guarantee," He said, "I can see you have taken out a three year cover," I said, "Yes, so would that make it 13 years cover in all?" Oh if it would be that simple! He said, "No, the first year is guaranteed......." He sort of lost me after that, then lost me some more when he said, "You have taken out a 3 year cover." It made me wished I hadn't taken out the 3 year cover and save myself £89.
Then Neil said, "I can see that you have two items insured with us, this means you are entitled, to have discount on another item." I said, "How much discount would I get?" He said, "It depends on the name of the branded item, and how old it is," I said, "The only item I would insure next would be the oven." He said, "I can see in March that you bought an oven and then cancelled it." I said, "No our cooker is over 8 years old." I said, "I would only consider insuring our cooker," Neil said, "What make is it?" I said, "I don't know, I am at work." I said, "I can ring you again tomorrow," He said, "OK."
When I put the phone down, I was still thinking of the oven he said, we bought in March and then cancelled? Then I remembered and rang back I got a lady called Rebecca, I said, "Would it be possible to speak to Neil, who I was just speaking to?" She said, "We all work from home, how can I help?" I explained what I had just remembered, and went on, "The Company refused to put our new oven in, they wanted us first to remove the two plugs that was a yard and half high above the cooker, and unless it was 2 yards above the cooker, they would not install it." This infomation seemed like it was news to her, and daft news aswel! She tried to get me to,"Try again, ask the Company about the plugs on the wall," But it was no good, I was sick of all their nonsense. I said, "The laws have changed and now if we want to put in a new cooker, we have to get someone who will do it on the side, for us as a professional Company like yourself refuses to do it, at a huge cost to us to move two plugs that have been there for decades, this house is over 100 year old."
The sad thing is, we really do need a new cooker, this one is on it's last legs.
