Sexual and Nazi Symbolism in The Sound of Music

The Von Trapp family, headed by a typical patriarchal AUSTRIAN man (he says he's not a nazi but we intellectual viewers can see right through that nonsense), tour the world performing ch ORAL concerts. Maria, a trainee NUN pretends to be pure and then encourages copulation between Leisl and Rolf (also a nazi). She teaches all the kids to sing Do Re Me, but any discerning critic can see that this is meant to be "Do me". Other songs with scarce concealed sexual overtones include "Climb Every Mountain" and "The Lonely Goatherd"

I used to play the record for this movie and sing Edleweiss for my mom! I thought Julie Andrews was the most beautiful woman alive! I wanted her voice her "Confidence". I sang that song when I felt shy and alone. Gosh, I never dreamed in a million years that it had any sexual inuendos, but I was only a child when I saw the movie. I remember wishing I was like Angela Cartwright and how lucky she was to be chosen as one of the Von Trapp children. Going to such a gorgeous place as Austria and the breathtaking scenery more than makes up for any implied sexual tones of the movie. I am sure that Robert Wise (the director of TSOM) never intended for his movie to be interpreted in this manner. Maybe he hated Nazi's but who didn't?? I only know that Maria was a far better choice as a mother of the Von Trapp children than that other golddigger girlfriend. Rolf was just a mixed up kid who was seduced into believing that being a Nazi was cool! He was torn between Liezl and his Nazi beliefs. He turned Nazi and ratted on the Von Trapp's. Poor Liezl was betrayed by love. Maria was a strong character far stronger than the father who was, in my opinion, a tyrant. I don't care how good looking he was, I wouldn't marry him. She was right to run back to the Abby but her hormones got the better of her and she ran right back into the arms of the Captain! Stupid woman! She sang so nicely in the Abby. But she loved the Captain and the children, so she followed her heart and I suppose her hormones played a part in that too. I guess you can have fun with these characters, but really I am blushing thinking of how wrong it is to make fun of this movie. thanks for listening Kathy Gabrielle

The "yodel" also has sexual implications. I suspect it is a portmanteau. Yo-do-do-low. The goats kissing and falling in love in the PUPPET THEATRE? Bestiality implication is not a good way of teaching ARF is it? Or is it Rolf? Sounds like the sound a dog makes when engaging in dirty activity!!!!!! A nun who likes to sing and dress kids up and sleep with them? Sounds like serious NANNY child-abuse possibilities. THE VAN TRAPP family? I seriously suspect the Venus FLYTRAP family was the first name. TONS AND TONS MORE OF POSSIBLE PORNOGRAPHIC SICK IMPLICATIONS!!!! THIS MOVIE MUST BE BANNED!
