The Meeting
I met Dot today. I was going about my business as usual. Running here
there and everywhere. She told me about "The Meeting".
She said that all the big wigs were going to be there. I thought I
might go. It was arranged for 4 o/clock that afternoon.
I went to the venue not really expecting very much. Speeches were made
about the long hours that we work and how some of us were going to be
made redundant.
"Because we are not contemporary, we can't keep up with the changing
climate. And new products were being introduced all the time. Old ones
updated.
Other departments are being added continuously and I'm not sure if we
can carry much more work" said the first speaker.
"The company is only a year old and all ready fighting to stay afloat
amidst fierce competition", said the second.
Some got upset. Others realised their fate and accepted it. A few got
angry and refused to accept the changing face of commerce.
The discussions got very heated.
It was decided that we would go on strike. I wasn't sure if it was the
right thing to do. I communicated my opinion. "Surely if we carried on
diligently, do the best we could then we wouldn't be put on the scrap
heap", my cries were unheard.
We took a vote. It was unanimous. The strike would commence straight
away.
We pulled the plug so to speak. Everything shut down.
I knew it was the wrong way to go. We would be thrown out with the
rubbish and replaced, if we were not careful.
Some time later we realised our mistake!
I was right. No one ever listens to me. I know I'm only small and just
a tiny cog in the machinery. But I was right.
Here we all were in the skip of life. Dumped in the back alley.
We weren't the only ones. There were other computers of all shapes and
sizes. Old dot matrix printers and even the odd daisy wheel. Large and
small monitors. Keyboards and laptops. The mice were most upset. So
much for ??.
"The Meeting".
