Surprise, Surprise
Jenny loved the last twenty-five years being married to Ged. She and her husband were blessed with two boys, Jamie aged twenty and at university and John, just finishing his ‘A’levels.
Jenny had enjoyed being ‘the housewife’ and had never been keen on taking up work outside the home. Now though, the days were long and she seemed to be twiddling her thumbs by Wednesday, looking for something to do.
One day she decided enough was enough.
“I’m going to go back to work,” she announced after tea one day to a surprised Ged.
The boys were amazed at this revelation but were enthusiastic for their Mum to do what makes her happy.
Jenny very quickly found a job at the local solicitor’s office on reception, the same place she’d enjoyed working in many years before.
Some staff were astonished to see Jenny sitting behind the desk after all the years had passed but they welcomed her into the fold.
Three months into her new job role, Jenny started having sweats, feeling dizzy and was in awe to find herself at the onset of the menopause.
“I’ve just started back at work and look what happens!” she said to Ged one evening.
“Better get checked out just to be on the safe side,” suggested Ged gingerly.
“Ok,” said Jenny, I’ll make an appointment.
Lo and behold, five days later Ged was dumb-founded to be told by Jenny, “Guess what, you’re gonna be a Dad again,”
