supermarkets are evil ...
i went to a farm shop yesterday and bought potatoes and carrots with muck on them ... Locally Sourced is my new buzzword ... Kit was hysterical when she heard my rant about vegetables being picked in market harborough and then being driven a hundred miles to be washed and packed and then driven back again wrapped in plastic thus contributing to the hole in the ozone layer, global warming and landfill sites ... through her tearful laughter she called me a hippie ...
what are you doing right now? she said ... yeah, driving a car you hypocrite!
hippiecrit? i said
later she told me not to credit her with such a bad joke ...
i dread to think what she is going to be like when she is older ... she is only 12 and seeing through me just like the other two do ... it's awful being a mother sometimes ... really you do all that for them ... buy them books and teach them to read and breastfeed them for years and dont give them sugar ... and then they suss you out ...
in my experience nobody is a harsher and more perspicacious judge ...
what's that saying ... how sharper than a serpent's tooth ... good old shakespeare ... right on the button as usual ...
bert has got a bad back ... despite my amazingly compassionate nature i believe him to be doing it on purpose ... being feeble won't do ... not with holidays approaching ... i think that he is doing it to get out of doing all the other things he doesnt like ... like washing ... packing ... carrying cases and driving ...
my response to his pleas for me to rub voltarol into his sore spot isn't quite what it should be ... i can't help it ... i just want to shout PIG!
i have sent my new book to a new agent ... i feel quite naughty saying this ... this is because my present agent makes me feel like a small child who isn't behaving QUITE as she should ... loads of people have told me to get a new one ... one who won't LOSE my mss ... i must resist the urge to stick out my tongue ... i must ...
certain things are difficult to source locally ... gin for one ... milk for another ... it is all homogenised and presented in plastic isn't it? (milk that is , not gin) ... i don't think you can actually BUY local milk ... it probably isn't even legal to do so ... doesn't it all have to be tested and so on? ... is it time to think about using the milkman again? ... ours had a double hernia and eight children ...
bread is simple enough with good local bakeries (ditto cakes) but what about all those other things? ... i am disappearing under a terrible wheaty cloud of being a home producer of hummus ... but where do i get the soddin chick peas? ... my mother never used chick peas ...
if you object to your sprouts travelling up and down the M1 what on earth position should you be taking on beans that have been FLOWN in from a developing country?
shopping is hell ...
bert thinks i am extreme ... he said it when i told him that was the last bit of packaged gammon HE would be seeing ... i made him confess that he wishes i was more normal ... hah!
