the future laughing now

What if an apocalypse happened and no one noticed?
The lime trees still cast their dust down
In front of the blocks on Walworth road.
What if the Elephant continued to gleam, where once I
(buses autonomous and gold -windowed in rain)
Broke up two kids fighting
As if tomorrow wasn¡¯t coming;
Security lingering and -radio¡¯s a¡¯crackle
laughing whilst angry muscles
Kicked against my hands.
The trains still flicked knife clean
Valley makers through
A jungle of nature¡¯s assertions
The back streets still sung late at night
And no one noticed.
As over and under the bridges
the pigeons flew and gouged,
their own lumpen unity from the sky.
