Crocodile Tears

She told me about her first kiss.
It was confetti and chrysanthemums.
At the wedding,
She signed ‘I love you’ with her hands.
They wanted a happy family.
The sun rays hitting a window on the newborn’s nursery,
A beautiful, curly-haired girl,
Playing with modeling clay.
Children with stained fingers are gods.
The year after,
His face became perpetually
Stained with anger.
It started with a
Greeting card thrown to the floor,
And wound up in
Lost eyelashes and crocodiles.
Now I am here,
Nothing but a pretty lump.
My elbows, my kneecaps, my eyebrows, my lower lip.
Unperfect.
