"I'm going to see Boson," Kit said. "To find out if this Gibson chap arrived alone. You stay here," he said to Megson," start the door to door knocking, make sure the house is sealed off and organise a search of the grounds, now we have daylight. Anderson's heading back to the mainland, but he's leaving a number of officers behind, if you coordinate with Mandelson, he's heading up Anderson's team in his absence."
"Here," said Megson, passing him a photo.
"You want me to show people a photo of his bloodied face?" said Kit, appalled.
"It's not that photo. There was a driving license in the man's wallet which checks out - they've sent over a copy of the photo."

"Kit," Boson greeted him as he arrived at the ferry. "You must be excited. Your first murder. I hear they rang your urgent phone. I'm surprised anyone remembered the number. Lucky Sally isn't here this week Kit, could have rang at a very awkward moment."
"It was four O'clock in the morning, Hal, I was sound asleep, it couldn't be more awkward. Did the man use the ferry?" he held out the photo Megson had given him.
"Yeah, I remember the chap. I remember thinking, that's a really forgettable face. You'd struggle to remember that face. I don't think I've ever seen anyone less memorable."
"Was he with anybody."
"No, he was alone."
"Were there any other strangers on the boat? Or any of the recent boats."
"No, mostly regulars, nobody unexpected."
"And was he carrying anything? Any luggage."
"Yes, I remember thinking, that's a really forgettable luggage. You'd struggle to remember that luggage. I'd don't think I've ever seen less memorable luggage."
"Could you describe the luggage," Kit said, ever-patient.
"Light brown, a really forgettable colour."
"A light brown suitcase?"
Boson looked at Kit as if he was mad.
"I said luggage Kit, not a suitcase."
"You mean there wasn't a suitcase?"
"I mean there were two suitcases, Kit. A suitcase is a suitcase. Two suitcases are luggage. You've spent too long on the mainland with this Sally Kit, you've forgotten how to speak Boonhill."
They were interrupted by Kit's phone. It was Megson.
"Forensics have found a match for the fingerprint on the weapon, sir," he said.
"Excellent. Who is it?"
"It's Joey the koala. You know, the koala at Meltonian zoo they fingerprinted a few years ago."
Great. His first murder case. His first really serious investigation, and the killer was a koala bear.
