I write all sorts, some of it SF, urban fantasy and horror, a lot of it not. Sometimes I can even be funny, so I'm told. My short stories have appeared in the anthologies 'Cold Iron: Ghost Stories from the 21st Century' (Iron Press) and 'Science Fiction For Survival: An Archive For Mars' (Valley Press), as well as in magazines ranging from the literary magazine 'Dreamcatcher' to 'Writing Magazine' and 'The People's Friend' (the latter definitely not SF, urban fantasy or horror). I do regular local spoken word events, and needless to say there is a novel on the go. Do come and have a peep at the blogs, stories and audio at https://www.janeayrie.com - you can even go mad and sign up for my newsletter! Plus the usual social media stuff. All details below. Thanks for dropping in! (Oh, the picture is of my highly critical personal editor.)

Daisy and The Chalet Woman (Pt 3)

Kati formulates a plan. An ending. Possibly not THE ending. Still needs a lot of work.

Story of the week

Daisy and The Chalet Woman (Part One)

I am really struggling with this one. I've got two thirds of the way through and I now have about three endings, all entirely different, and I can't decide. I don't even know what genre to put it in. Depends on the ending...

Yes, we are, we are indeed.

Posted on Fri, 21 Jun 2024

Yes, we are, we are indeed. And the worst of us are almost certain to make that leap into the unknown, and all I hope is that when they get wherever they're going they meet the same fate as the human space travellers in 'Don't Look Up'. (If you...

I think we can all sympathise

Posted on Sat, 22 Jun 2024

I think we can all sympathise with Alfred's question. Justice and respect seem fairly basic things to desire - as you say, who would think they could be so difficult!

Thank you for posting this,

Thank you for posting this, Di, definitely one from the heart. It is so sad when young people feel a vote is worthless and they have no investment in democracy. It is very true that many people feel the climate crisis is something vague in the...

Thanks, Ewan. It certainly is

Posted on Wed, 19 Jun 2024

Thanks, Ewan. It certainly is blame the other. I had a conversation with someone the other day who thinks minimum wage is the problem. It's too high, apparently. Destroying businesses. The boats too, of course, destroying everything else, but...

I don't like flying either, but it's worth it to get to Malta. Beautiful place. It's donkey's years since I went but I have very fond memories.

Frank Zappa. You can't go

Posted on Tue, 18 Jun 2024

Frank Zappa. You can't go wrong. Well, not often.

Our two 'Spoons are called the Punchbowl and the Postern Gate. Both of which, despite their ancient and highly respectable origins, seem to sum up Saturday night in our fair city. Punching...

Beware the Hub. For humanity

Posted on Mon, 17 Jun 2024

Beware the Hub. For humanity's sake, beware the Hub.

I love all the observation in these episodes, linking the past and present, how things have changed but melding that seamlessly into the story. Hurry up with the next bit.

Beautifully evocative, and the last line really catches the heart. And, as always, the audio really draws you in.
