I'm guessing by 'aspire to imitate', his kids were doing their best to please the 'you' spoken of by the narrator, but he doesn't appritiate it. Speaks like the narrator is also the son.
This is wonderfully pared down to the bones, but also retains the delicacy of the broken China, which is the self of the narrator, broken and fixed one too many times.
So simply and plainly put, Rhiannon. Made me think what it's like to exchange one terror for another with only the chance of it working out for the best. Very real and thought provoking.
Cleverly woven piece, brimming with the sights and scents of the turning season, and a message. 'Resentment rears its ugly head, and yet all things must end to begin again, to everything there is a season...'
I like the idea we all have a different image of her face, which we do, but having mentioned it, you kind of step outside the poem and it becomes reality. Loved this one, but then I'm always saying that - coz it's true,
