The Innocence Of An Ardoyne Child
By Paul McCann
All around Ardoyne’s little streets
We played with ropes , hoops and cleeks ,
and we had fun in the life we had to live .
We all grew up in some hard times
but we made up little rhymes
because we all had a sense of humour to give .
All one together as a friend
we never meant to offend
anybody anywhere with the things we said .
The funny side of life was
a sunny side all because
we all lived and played with an innocence back then .
It make me stop and think now
about life today and how
we can never think again as little children .
Some people there may incite us
with bigotry despite us
being righteous in every kind of way ,
but poets will always write us
words that enlighten us,
and their outlook brightens the colour of our day .
They say that bad Frostbitus
can bring on Mondayitus
so I thought that I would give you a small surprise .
We may get appendicitis ,
dogs may even bite us,
but they will never take the smiles from both our eyes .
In this world that we are passing through,
it’s nice to know people like you
so before this moment slips away ,
I’d like to say thank you,
because it’s people like you
who make the world a better place to live in today..
