Clear lovely views of the Black mountains
as we travelled west to Peterchurch
[in the Golden Valley –
the river Dore, thought of as D'or, 'of gold',
but from dŵr (Welsh for ‘water’)]:
then out to walking!
Up the slight hill westwards,
and through a pen of very new thin-legged excited lambs
with their ewes.
One ewe had nearly lost her winter coat,
torn away, probably caught on hedges or fences.
Many young and very young lambs out
 on the hill fields with their mothers,
some dazzlingly white.
Down to the Trenant brook
– two very difficult fields to cross down
– haven’t been in such sinking, sucking
gloopy clay since we lived in Sussex.
Not sure if it was the type of clay
or the excessive rainfall recently.
Fight to get your boots out,
and not sit in it
(towards the end of the walk up a similar field
– some firm spots, but still very hard-going.)
Up again for lovely views eastwards to the Malverns.
So many spring ‘firsts’
– honesty, stitchwort, comfrey,
white blackthorn on its leafless hedges,
and green hawthorn leaves sprouting out of others.

Your scenic walk has so much to offer the reader Rhiannon, with the malvern hills and those excited lambs with their yews. 

I could even smell the fresh country air as i read and it gave me a smile.

A lovely, scenic and calming country walk (in spite of the mud). Last year we spent a week in Dorstone, not far from Peterchurch. A truely delightful part of the world and so well portrayed by your words.

Thanks for the reminder of our holiday.

Another wonderful ramble through bucolic scenery. You have a keen eye for appreciating the beauty of nature, Rhiannon.

I was out walking in Braunston on Monday and it was lovely to see spring lambs in the fields.
