A Manifesto for Creative Liberation

As I sit here, in front of my screen, with the rain beating down outside, I feel a strong urge to register some reflection on my and all of our existences. The air is humid and slightly cold and there seems to be an energy in it - like a faint electric pulse. It's connecting everything. And even though I am tied to the mundane tasks of my job - writing code - which is something I have done for over 25 years now, I sense that there are epic and marvellous, timeless experiences unfolding all around me. It's something I want to be a part of.

I have therefore written a manifesto to shake me out of this lethargy and wake up to greater personal growth, creativity, and a rejection of mundane constraints, through optimism, openness and small steps.

Nothing that hasn't been done before. But perhaps it will help...

We stand at the precipice of existence, poised between the weight of obligation and the electric pulse of creativity that courses through our veins. In the quiet hum of our daily lives, we recognise the brilliance that surrounds us—the vast potential for expression and connection that lies dormant within our hearts.

I. Embrace the Pulse of Life
Let us awaken to the beauty of the mundane, to the rain that beats upon our windows and stirs our souls. Each drop is a reminder that life is rich with experiences waiting to be felt, cherished, and shared. We reject the notion that creativity is reserved for the few; it is our birthright, accessible to all who dare to dream.

II. Break the Chains of Conformity
We declare an end to the monotonous cycle of paycheck to paycheck, the shackles of routine that bind us to lives half-lived. We will no longer view our responsibilities as burdens but as the very foundation upon which we can build our creative empires. It is time to dismantle the walls of fear that keep us from embracing the extraordinary.

III. Claim Your Fridays
Let us carve out sacred time for our passions! We advocate for a shift in our work culture—demanding the freedom to dedicate our Fridays (or any day we choose) to the pursuits that ignite our spirits. This is a day for writing, painting, sculpting, and performing; a day to rediscover the joy of existence beyond the confines of our duties.

IV. Connect and Create
We recognize that humanity thrives on connection. It is in sharing our struggles and triumphs that we find strength. We will seek out communities that foster creativity, whether they be local workshops, online forums, or social media platforms. Together, we will celebrate our creative sparks and honour our individual journeys.

We will not fear the blank page; we will embrace it! Each mark we make is a testament to our resilience and our courage. We are artists of our own lives, shaping our destinies with every brushstroke, every word, every performance. We will nurture our creative spirits, allowing them to flourish in vibrant colours—each stroke an expression of our deepest selves.

VI. Celebrate Every Step
Let us celebrate progress, however small. Every attempt at creation is a victory in itself, a step toward self-realization and fulfilment. We acknowledge that transformation does not happen overnight, but with patience and perseverance, we will rise. We will support one another in this journey, knowing that there are no wrong paths, only new opportunities.

We call upon all who feel the weight of routine to join us in this revolution of the spirit. Let us reject the false dichotomy of safety versus creativity.
