A hagiography of the longest serving and most successful manager of Manchester United. And the most successful manager of Aberdeen and of British football—by himself.

Two statues of Sir Alex Ferguson. One outside Old Trafford. The other outside Pittodrie. Sir Alex Ferguson has constructed another monument with his son Jason in a two-part documentary form.

Here we get the hairdryer or the blast furnace, but in a nice way. From his humble beginnings as an apprentice and shop steward in the Govan yards to playing for Rangers at Ibrox. Glory, Glory, Glory.

The thing about statues they’re bright as new graves. Quick to fade. Frame by frame. We are the people. Those ghosts of ourselves undefeated, disappear. Gone. Hunched shoulders and forgotten memories. Whisper it, Sir Alex doesn’t matter much now.

The best team I’ve seen was Pep’s Barcelona. They dismantled Fergie’s Manchester United team in a European final and were a few classes above them. No disgrace in that. But even in defeat, we can love our teams more.
