Question Nineteen – How does being single impact your time management?
Donna
I feel free.

Being single has fluctuating effects on my time management. I battle to get to things because there are so many things that I must get to and do on my own, but at least I can plan and work through things without affecting anyone else, if I don’t get to anything in the time I should. So, if it’s cereal for dinner, then it’s cereal for dinner and that’s ok. I have to make sure that I am doing the laundry, the garden, the grocery shopping, the hygiene requirements of life and living, cooking and cleaning, then the work commitments, the family commitments and the friend space, along with the hobby, personal development and Church and Bible time. Then it’s exercising that I need to keep up with so I can function for all the rest. In holiday time, however, it’s wonderful as hours of my day open up to deal with things like banking, tax, car services, health checks and the like. Overall, it’s an overwhelming number of things that I have to do, and keep up with, but God’s grace, strength and help gets me through and keeps me above water. My Time Management has to be very flexible.

Sadly, work takes up far too much time! Being single allows me to rest and recharge over the weekend and do as much or as little as I want to do.

My time is my own, and I love that! Sometimes I feel selfish, but I do have obligations to many other people and commitments, but in general, I love living on my own time, walking to the beat of my own drum.

The challenge of doing everything yourself does mean that tasks can take longer to complete. As I mentioned previously, the upside is that you have more time available to be a good friend to others, and a reliable helper to be called on at short notice.

For me, as my children get older, my time is becoming freer. But, with this, comes excessive loneliness. Finances aren’t always there to spend time on pleasurable activities, so it’s a real problem.

Since I am now semi-retired my time management is very different to what it was a year ago.Although I will always be an early riser and early to bed.Getting my chores done immediately after rising and thus freeing up the rest of the day to be flexible for the children.
