greetings,
wandelaar
‘12 days over Christmas’ is a true slice of life written in the form of non-stop conversations. This
is a book that simplifies psychology into real everyday life for you and I. The book is based on
12 days over Christmas with the main character being a 37 year old Glaswegian called Alistair
McGregor. Who for 5 years had suffered as a result of finding out his wife had an affair and been
victim to a near fatal knife attack unrelated in the space of one and a half weeks. This meant the
effects transpired as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder encompassing heightened paranoia.
Day one things kick off when Alistair catches a report from Natasha Kaplinski on BBC
Breakfast News regarding advertising on television. From that point on Alistair formulates a
Plan: this is the only possible change to the McGregor family financial circumstances all hopes
are pinned on an interview on the 3rd day for a job with the Probation Service. The only job Alistair has is that of a voluntary position with Victim Support. Victim Support is a charity that helps victims of crimes. By the 3rd day the job application is rejected, and through his annoyance Alistair approaches an American TV Network requesting an advertising cost for a device to be advertised which replaces adverts with an alternative image. When Alistair’s wife, Izzy, finds out she makes him promise not to pursue it for fear of Alistair being arrested on the grounds of deception. However, unknown to any of the McGregor family from the moment the email reaches the LVE American Network Head Office all hell breaks loose in a very knee-jerk American kind of a way. This involves them sending a highly trained assassin to ascertain what Alistair has built and who he is; they plan to stop him carrying through his invention.
All the time Alistair is convinced that all the strange things happening around him are due to the
release of the man who had stabbed him 5 years previous. By the 11th day LVE TV’s assassin is arrested by Undercover Anti-terrorist Officers who are guarding the Prime Minister and his
family. LVE TV is forced to hire the very person who had stabbed Alistair, to finish the job.
They seriously underestimate Alistair’s desire to get through his baggage and his attacker Gary
Woodgate. Gary wants to put things right for the wrong he had committed to Alistair.
Over the 12 days you will share a journey with Alistair and see the connections in how and why
victims are made and by whom: victims. One of the tools that Alistair soon realises is that by
helping others it rapidly helps in his recovery from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. During this
journey the readers will immediately recognise their own baggage or the chips they carry on their
shoulders and all their demons! By educating the reader like Alistair they will learn to recognise ‘their baggage: more importantly how to remove it: then allowing themselves to grow: move on at the same time by no longer allowing their pasts to hold back their futures. This is all done in a very humourous, down to earth Glaswegian way.
‘12 days over Christmas’ covers the questions asked and offers the answers to them all:
“Why is everyone miserable deep down inside?”
“Why do we generally turn our worst nightmares into reality?”
“Why are people obese?”
“Why do women hate/resent men?”
“Why don’t men understand?”
“What makes gays and lesbians?”
“What are the television advertisers costing us all daily and how can we deal with it?”
“Why religion should be removed from society if men and women ever want a chance?”
“Why do we the British need to reconsider our relationship with America?”
“What Americans need to do to resolve Iraq?”
“Why America is really in Iraq: and it has nothing to do with wealth, oil or George W. Bush’s
father?”
“Why scientists are attempting to promote gene selection?”
“Why music is so important in all our lives?”
These are recorded in the book to help the readers understand what they need to do to find real
true-life happiness and love.
Fundamentally the reason for writing this book is to help folk understand how to deal with
their baggage: therefore creating a better world for you and me to live in by removing the
misery: by educating that everything we’ve been taught we can’t do is a flawed comment:
therefore allowing them to grow and develop as should have been and gain confidence
in life and love. I believe the 12 days over Christmas to be more refreshing insight into the
problems in the World today, but more importantly in the answer of what we need to do and how
to do it.
I wish I did. Perhaps someone can tell us both.

This is my first post on ABC. I've written over 100 short stories; over 60 hv bn published, most in e-zines. No success w/publishers or agents so believe must self- publish, especially since 75 yrs old & time is running out. Wd like to find reliable self-publisher, not too exhorbitant, who'll produce decent-looking book, Wd like to put bk in local library/bk stores. Potential sales: 100-200 copies. Any advice, especially from those who've gone this route, very welcome. Martin Green
Why don't you look at PABD ? (looks cheap & good)
Good in what sense? Which genre? 'Good' is quite a broad word!
