Something's There by Camilla

I love this chilly car journey. I'm sure we've all been in this situation. The old amygdala preparing us for fight or flight in the face of a perceived but irrational fear.

'the tunnel of trees leans over
kissing me with old mans whiskers..'

'a cracklebone snaps
shifting and shuffling whispers..'

I'm left wondering what it is she saw when she ran to the shed. Is this a tale of irrational fear or something more terrifyingly real? As someone who suffers from agoraphobia I can easily pick up on the anxiety in this poem

Well written, Camilla.

The only thing I wasn't too sure of was 'papery and rough'.

Thanks for comments Yes there is the irrational fear and then .... most people have some childhood memory of feeling at risk whether the bogeyman actually turns up or not.

I couldn't remember his name earlier but this poem brought to mind this painting by Edward Hopper: http://homepages.pavilion.co.uk/lincreasey/gas.jpg There's nothing more mind-teasing than the incomprehensible eagerly avowed - Dennett

nice picture, empty ,creepy ,and a sign creaking in the wind .

i wanted this to go on longer. Then end hinted at a sad or possibly shocking memory - when she hadn't hid, you wonder what happened to her? The not knowing adds the suspense. thanks Juliet
