Redrecon's "NYC: From the Inside"

I've been writing a few journal-type entries about my experiences as a New Yorker. Any thoughts or comments?

To be honest it's all a bit sort of generic and clichéd. You've written a lot about the New York subway but haven't said anything that couldn't equally be said of the London Underground of the Paris Metro. There is a very distinct feeling to New York, more so than many other cities (I was there last week) - but capturing the sense of any place is a tricky thing to do, and you haven't quite done it yet. ~Edit~ When I read that back it sounds harsher than I intended. I should add that the writing's fine in itself. It's just not telling me anything I didn't already know.

Red, Dan's right. You're writing is pretty good, especially for a man as young as you. It doesn't seem awkward, forced or pretentious, the three curses of the teenage author. So certainly stick with it. On the NYC stuff particularly, how about telling us the secrets of NYC? If you've seen or heard someone else talk about something, don't write about it. Don't cover the same ground that thousands before you have. Go out today if you get a chance and find something special, or small, or odd or wonderful and tell us about that. Find something that's yours, that really, really interests you and write something that shows us why it interests you so much. You can get lost in a big city. Tell us what you find. Cheers, mark

Thanks for your input everyone. Don't worry about sounding too "harsh" in your critiques. The important thing is that your criticisms were sharp and to the point. As for future pieces in the series, I'll make sure they aren't too commonplace. To my KAIROS Brothers and Sisters: Doubt, Cry, Trust, and Live! KAIROS LX forever!
Latest addition to the series is posted. Is it any better, or still work to be done. At least in terms of being clichéd or not. Looking forward to any comments you might have. The NYC Subway: Ghost Station To my KAIROS Brothers and Sisters: Doubt, Cry, Trust, and Live! KAIROS LX forever!
