P.S. I used to have a five-bedroomed house with all the trimmings. It was a millstone. I kept me with my ex-husband. When Dean & I became homeless in 2002 I could only take what was important and what I could carry. I took my dogs, my photos, my paperwork, poetry, paintings, dictionary and Roget's Thesaurus. Everything else could be replaced. We were homeless for nine months, living in a room over a pub. But it made me realise that most things can be replaced. It gives one a feeling of lightness.
Your post brings back memories of my youth Carole.
Sat on the train with my backpack heading for India.
The sudden realisation that I could go anywhere, do anything;
that I had escaped, that an infinity of paths were a single step away...
they still are ;o)
I spent a summer on the road in 1972 from choice. It was fantastic. I had a great time going to all the music festivals and working at them. You could get in free if you got there a few days early because they always needed more staff.
I have always wanted to go to India. I am jealous.
