Is It Time To Teach The World To Sing In Harmony?

It seems that every other week a new global catastrophe even greater than the last strikes and yet the best response the authorities can offer is a few recommendations for improvement the running of the IPCC.
Don’t you ever wonder if anything will ever, really, be done about Global Weather change and the continued destruction of the planet’s eco systems?
Yes, there are promises, rarely kept, yes, there are summits that always promise that NEXT time there will be a Global agreement…

I watched the latest Michael Jackson DVD recently which included his great song for the Planet and it reminded me that he co wrote “Feed The World” - it set me thinking about Band Aid and it struck me that one good pop group is worth a thousand mealy mouthed politicians and one great song can change the world! Certainly a lot has been done by the likes of Bob and Bono to help feed the world but now a global collaboration to ‘Save The World’ is what’s needed.

Perhaps the first step would be to organise a series of concerts to raise money for an Emergency BandAid fund. It’s painfully obvious that there will be many more Global catastrophes and having more funds already available would surely speed up the relief efforts. Yet beyond this, pop pressure on governments to stop sitting on their hands and actually do something would be hard for them to resist!

There’s no shortage of good poets on ABC so how about some lyrics to inspire the musicians

Below is a quick revamp of an old Beatles favourite - it’s a bit clunky in places but it’s a start…
It has a melody that is extremely well known and the changes to the lyrics are minimal.

However, have a go yourself!
Post it below and let’s see if we can inspire another BandAid Around the Planet!

Hey dude, don’t look so sad, take a bad song and make it better.
Remember to listen to your heart, then you can start to make it better.
Hey dude, don’t be afraid, She is your world so help to save Her
The minute you let Her under your skin, then you begin to make it better.

And even when you feel the pain, hey dude remain
Don’t try to escape from what you’re feeling
For well you know that it’s a fool who plays it cool
By making his heart a little colder.

Hey dude, don’t let me down, She’s your Mother, now go and aid Her.
Remember to let Her into your heart, then you can start, to make Her better.
So let it out and let it in, Hey dude begin, Go out and find others to perform with
Don’t you know it’s not just you, hey dude, it’s true
The movement you need is on your shoulder!

Hey dude, don’t look so sad, take a bad song and make it better.
Remember to listen to your heart, then you can start to make it better..
Better, Better, Better, Better, Better, Oh.

Ready to teach the world to sing, in harmony, hey dude.

With acknowledgement and apologies to the Beatles (Although I think John would have loved it ;O)

The real threat to the eco system is corruption. No we shouldn't give up but we are fighting big time capitalists and money can't change that. But a world wide appeal by musicians really hits off well and gathers people together with a world wide community feeling. I think you have struck a good note.
Personally I just do not trust Bob Geldof or Bono, theres something sinister behind those dark shades, they are capitalist insurgents hell bent on globalisation, damn neo Liberals!

Until we feel our thoughts our thinking remains unfelt

One more thought that just popped in my head, apparently back in the 50's just before the space race, America were thinking of some plot to show the world how they were the greatest super power, One of the idea's on the table was to pro\/ide running water right across Africa. Unfortunately they thought developing rockets would be a better investment.

Until we feel our thoughts our thinking remains unfelt

So much for the Beat generation !
Are you a drummer Highhat?

Noo SBroox ;) Maybe should have been - perhaps I would be better at it than writing :(
Whatever you think about Bob and Bono, Will, they have made a huge difference! The most important aspect of their contribution might well be their ability to encourage other entertainers, including famous actors and film stars, to get involved and so broaden the movement’s appeal. Entertainers are far better at persuading people because it is part of their job to change the way that people feel while modern politicians are mostly involved with trying to change how people think. In the end we will all have to change how we think but first we must change how we feel - our attitude to the planet! We have to realise that the Planet is NOT ours and we have to start to treat it with love and respect! I would argue that politicians could never do that but that entertainers can and should!
