Self-Pity; Is it better to eat chocolate or something more constructive?

I had a wallow day yesterday and I suddenly thought, what do other people (writers in particular) do when they have the self-pitying blues? Do you fill up with rich food and tea, lashings of alcohol or do you sing songs from The Sound Of Music to create a false jollity? Do you like to hiberate (my solution) or wail and gnash your teeth in public? Or something entirely more constructive/destructive/morbid/dull?

I have just realise that my topic question does not make good grammatical sense. However, pedants amongst you please do not point this out. I am fragile enough.

lashings of alcohol, music and hibernation. all at the same time. others I know listen to Morrisey. But that would tip me over the edge.

when languishing in self pity (which happens rarely - only about thrice a week) ... we drink gin, chainsmoke and complain loudly to our friends ... they are seldom any use at all ... our motto here at the IvoryLlama Crest Counselling Centre is "Pull Yourself Together" ... " Get A Grip" ... or sometimes we are heard to say "you think YOU have problems ... listen to MINE"

I phone all my mates. Of course, they're all out 'cos that's what happens when you're in the depths of feeling rubbish. Then, chocolate and white wine beckon (along with Ally McBeal - who deserves a slap - and Friends)

The worse thing you can do is write about it, I've read some of the stuff people have written in their low moods and frankly those people would have been better off, laying off the writing and in the words of Why Don't You ?......go and do something less boring instead. Get out of the flat....go to a pub, see a film, a play, go buy a book....anything

I eat bricks or breeze blocks when I'm in self pity mode - they are very constructive.

self pity mode is really very self indulgent ... i should know ... there are two ways to deal with it ... but neither of them work ...

Get out the sloe and put on Cohen, Fish. It won't work either, but at least you'll be oblivious...
