You're so great and I love you!

Just sent this to Tony Cook and thought about posting it here. You guys are great, I don't know most of you but the few I know are amazing people.

This goes out to you all from the first time poster, to the Andy Packs and Eddie Gibbons to the other marvellous people. I admire you all. Slat water wells in my eyes.

ABC.COM

This email flies through the air to the wonderful abc people everywhere.
Too many writers give up that noble art, you guys, you help us to write with our hearts.

Diana, Stephen, Tony, John, Mark, Lisa et al.
Your site has enriched our lives
so many great people I look up to,
carry on the great job, you have a thankless task,
in our future cherries we basque!

If I 'ear da word 'rule' once more in dis forum, I'll be over t' Camden t' personally insert the 12" version into your rectum like a fork into a pile of steamy, soggy, sad, spaghetti. sideways.

A shameless attempt by The Spag Man to become writer of the week. This sort of syrupy sentimental gush should come with a health warning for diabetics. I still love you though Si.

You can't blame him for trying though mark. After all, it worked last time he grovelled for attention! Some are taken in by fake sentimentality. Others are not. Unfortunately those who aren't often get labelled as 'spiteful' and 'nasty' just because they don't say "ahhhh bless" yours with a mozzerella cheesy cliche of sentiment.

Stormy, you take my breath away! Go on be nice and I'll give you a cherry! Seriously though, I hope there is a measure of integrity. As mentioned before there is a huge cross section of work to be read. Sometimes a writer who has improved , in my opinion , get's a cherry, when compared with someone who is obviously better might get a bit peeved. I know I can't please everyone and I try to pick what I feel is the `best ` writing. I look for integrity within the work itself. That is I may not agree with the sentiments but within itself, what the writer has intended, has worked. Even if you were the `nastiest` person on the site, which I don't believe you are , you write something good, in my opinion, of course then I would pick it, as I have in the past. Stormy I always get the opinion that you get exasperated with people being `nice`because you don't trust it. Don't worry you don't have the burden of being the all seeing eye. You may have the caustic wit to blow people away, but I love you, you squashy man!

hmmmm..... Taken on face value, what you say, Mark, has merit. This thread, though, isn't really about the quality of work. It is about begging for attention; hence my reply to polish's (I feel it needs an 'e' but then you would think I was discussing housework) comment. There IS true sentiment in this forum from genuine people. I respect that. I simply feel that the site becomes demeaned when the editors respond to a gushy plea in the forum for fame and attention. Hopefully spag will understand what I am saying here. My criticism is not directed at him but at the site. There are many, many modest writers here who would never dream of self publicising themselves and, as a result, languish unknown in the bowels of ABC hoping that one day they may get farted out into the open. It was a pleasure to see Roy Bateman featured last week for example. He didn't shout. He let his work speak for itself. The great cherry debate has been re-opened elsewhere but I seriously believe that 'writer of the week'; 'story/poem of the day' and anything else featured on the front page should be chosen with more care than is presently shown. Otherwise ABC could become the joke dog turd of writers sites. Again, spag, don't presume this is all about you. ABC does not necessarily revolve around you. You have been the catalyst for this debate that's all. I feel I should end this with a "I love you too hunny bunny" remark. But I have my caustic credentials to consider. Harry

I have not responded yet and didn't want to. It seems that certain people take things too seriously. 1) The post was a joke. 2) I don't need attention. If I did I would threaten to do a stupid act in front of my friends. 3) I don't want to get cherry picked. 4) I get the feeling that you think that I think the site revolves around me. Now then if this site revolved around me it should be taken off the net. I know I have many detractors on this site but please take yourselves a little bit less seriously. I have sat back and seen what you guys have posted. I may disagree and it was not for attention. I just want to say that .....I RULE!!!!!!! HEHEHEHEHEHHEHE

Spaghetti Unction, I don't believe that the post was a joke, though you are certainly a joker. We do not take ourselves seriously, if you had read anything other than your own postings you might have realised this. However, we do take our writing seriously, otherwise we would not be here. As for you -you are not, and never will be a writer. You are a sad little man who has strayed onto the wrong site. The fault here lies with certain people at ABC Tales who have fallen for your sickly sentimentality and have misused their authority to promote you, for reasons of their own which have nothing to do with the quality of your writing. You are not the issue here.. The issue is what kind of site do the editors want? Do they want to pander to simpering imbeciles or do they want to encourage genuine attempts at decent writing? Do they want to encourage self-improvement or self-promotion? As for you, go and take your fractured personality elsewhere - the contributors of this site will not be pissed on by the likes of you. We'll still be here when you are at you Adult (?) Literacy classes.

i must say that this is getting rather too serious for my liking as well as some others. we don't want another mississipi situation developing and i must say that while some peoples backs are up, they could do with closing this topic and making the problem seem less an attack on spag and other "new" writers but on the *seemingly* lax selection procedures. dude isnt the problem, we are for being so damn inconsiderate cos we feel we arent getting the limelight we deserve! so that our egos dont get too damaged, i think everyone should respect the others right to speak. as a member of abc for a few months, from time to time i've been the foremost sage of lunacy and outright sh*te, but ive never been slain for it. must say that as someone who thinks that one day they might have the confidence to call themselves "poet", i'd like a little love between fellows: what is the point in being so bitchy to each other?

It's a bit like being a parent of demanding children. But sometimes your kids simply keep on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on....... so you shout at them. hopefully they learn.

this is beginning to sound like 'Today in Parliament'. First we had a 'foot and mouth' epidemic, now we have a 'tongue in cheek' epidemic and everyone's all in a fluster. Better than watching 'Eastenders' though. That's just Cockney crap.

when the bbc was market researching the soap that became eastenders, they asked people in different cities where they would and would not like it to be set. not surprisingly, everyone wanted it to be set in the city where they lived. the only exception was birmingham. we said that if it was set here, we wouldn't watch it.

Sorry guys, have to confess to watching Eastenders (when I remember it's on), and lots of other silly stuff, too. Does that make me a complete nerd? My excuse is that, as I haven't lived in the UK for more years than I care to remember, it (they) enable me to keep reasonably abreast of events/current jargo/social attitudes etc. Ditto the news. Even so, I've made quite a few mistakes in some of my stories (I last lived in England in the 70s) which, hopefully, if spotted, will be pointed out to me...

This thread seems to have got a bit out of hand. I know it's easy to just type away and forget there are real people attached to these usernames but people can get hurt, so can we all try to be nicer to each other please. ABCtales is supposed to be a nice friendly place and we don't want getting people upset and leaving the site (as a couple of people have because of getting a hard time in the forums.) I really don't want to have to spend my weekends going through the forums removing posts! Cheers Em (in gruff schoolmarm mode!)
