Short-short stories

Just come across a site that has short-short stories from 2 (no, I do not jest!) to 300 words - possibly for the concentration-impaired - and I recently saw a call for stories of 100 to 150 words for SMS and WAP.

'Please Miss, can we see who can write the shortest story?'
'No, Mandy, we can't, it's not on the curriculum.'
'Oh, pleeeeeeeese, Miss..... Just this once!'
'Get off the floor, Mandy, and stop licking my shoes!'
'But I love the taste of cherry blossom boot polish, Miss, it's my favourite!'
'You are suspended forthwith, Mandy. Go to the Headmistress's study and take this cane.'
'Yes, Miss. Can I polish it with cherry blossom...'
'Go, I say! Do not darken the doors of this classroom again!!'
'Yes, Miss. Thank you, Miss.' Exits bearing cane aloft.

'Forthwith', Mandy? Oh ye who can't abide 'thus', 'hence' and 'hitherto'? :-)

That was my old English teacher talking, Andrea dear, she of the beige cardie and the permanent drip on her pinched red nose - no wonder I got to hate 'forthwith', 'henceforth' and 'hitherto'... Sorry, Robert, can't remember the name of the site but if you do a Google search for Short Bytes you'll find it.

"hanging head and blushing guiltily" sorry mandy. i admit to writing aforesaid "concentration-impaired" stories. i know it's a problem, but it's the best way for me to practice writing prose. i've been trying to concentrate for longer periods but i find i just....

i defy anyone to write a story containing two words. Or write two words containing a story. OK: Jane ran. But where and what's the point? Jesus wept. Historical. Emotional. Not exactly factual... Man fell. Which one? How far? Nero fiddled. with what? Hague resigns. himself to what? Ferguswergus ponders...

Here's some two-word stories, with titles: The Killer Escapes "Where?" "Arrrrrrrrrh!" The Inept Lover "Come?" "No!" Danny has an Appointment with his Psychiatrist Tells all. Supergrass Spills Beans Blows cover.

Yes, there's lots of connection to my name. It's stuck with me through thick and thin... Mainly thick.

My hero Grant Morrison once had a character called "!" , leading to a cracking bit of dialogue. Love Glove, "So, you're called !... How'd you pronounce that ?" ! "!"
