The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini
I liked this, or at least I think I liked this, it certainly made a long plane journey pass very quickly, but at the end I was left feeling that it was all a bit slight. Like a really good short story extended to novel length.
I don't want to be too mean about it because it was a very good read, and feels far more like a memoir than a novel. But I wanted more meat, characters would be in the book for ages and I caught myself thinking 'I don't know anything more about him than I knew after the first chapter'.
It's also one big cliche, writer with troubled past reminisses whilst taking journey back home for eventual redemption. Which particuarly annoyed me towards the end when he started talking about cliches.
Anyone else read it.
