Anyone know a literary agent or comp for a child author?

My daughter is writing a book. She is 13 and it is actully good. any writing comps for kids?

She is a voracious reader and she is pushing the types of genre she is likely to read.

She is quite sensible but she does want to try. It is good, her writing ,and it is not just me saying it. Her English teacher at school agrees she has maturity and a unique quirky style.Its also action packed. Anyone know any writing competitions she can enter?

If you google 'writing competitions for children' you'll get many links to hundreds of such competitions. The skill is in selecting the genuine ones from the 'scams'. Good luck in your search.

hello Camilla. Does her school have a gifted and talented section? I think they are all supposed to, I don't know where in the country you are, but there should be a university that has a connection to your school or area, and they should be offering masterclasses in various subjects - one of which is bound to be creative writing - to students to stretch them further than school can. There should also be a gifted and talented website, nationally, which will have details of competitions, summer schools, weekend courses etc. I think all of it is subsidised or cost free. Her English teacher should know all this stuff, and be able to give you the links. Also there is this place :http://www.arvonfoundation.org/p11.html - they do things (including competitions) specifically for the under eighteens. That might be a good place to ask for further information. Hope that helps!

I'll check out the Arvon. I have found a competition that closes in May. Before that we will give an agent who specializes in young fiction a shot. Daughter is too busy to take on anything on top of school. She gets good marks at a good school and is doing Cello, Keyboard, Singing, and Kickboxing on top. Currently she is doing music theory practice papers,and we have to write a speech for a public speaking event.She will appear in a music festival in a few months time doing a rock song on the keyboard, and oh yes she and some chums are putting together a band. In her spare time she writes her book. She would love to do a masterclass in writing and in music but we are all short of time and money.
