Make Lots of Moola Writing Poetry?
My deceased dear friend, Poet Raymond Souster said to me, beginning in 1965, in Toronto ON:
"I write poetry because it is a demanding mistress."
I'll say -- I write poetry because I must, and I love to do so. (I am a one woman man and need no mistress).
Ray told me he never made any large amounts of money from his 50 published in print poetry books; three more to come out shortly -- posthumously.
I have made a little here and there, but money should not be a motive for writing poetry. It should be for the love of words, phrases to capture attention and to share your views of a world that surrounds you.
So many ABC writers are very good, and although it has been my pleasure to have written many poems, I still learn much from my ABC friends.
For beginning poets --- read, write and share. Develop a thick skin when someone suggests changes to your baby. I am not bothered by suggestions for improvement re any of my works. Thankfully, others have taken the time to help me.
Wise words there Richard.
And a prescient comment Bear.
