The Writings On The Wall

The Writings On The Wall

They crayon on the walls
She draws on her cigarette

They vie for her attention
She answers calls of nature

They need her strength
She can’t help herself

They seek her guidance
She is lost

They don’t understand
She cannot

They are innocent
She blames herself

They crayon on the walls
She draws on another cigarette

Well Eric....I would say, that "the writings on the wall" is supposed to be that way. As in "The drawings on the wall" Open to interpretation, as the writer no doubt meant. And Dave..you need to post in your set, not on the boards. Nice piece though.

Of course you are right, Liana, and I did realise this, but I just couldn't resist the opportunity for airing my pet hate. Sorry. Breathe deeply. Control myself. :-(

Eric, Have you ever listened to Tom Lehrer records - your poem was very reminiscent of his stuff - I think you'll like it (I think the man's a genius!) Cheers Em

Thanks, Emily! Yes, I do like what Tom Lehrer I've heard but don't know his stuff very well. Did he do the "poisoning pigeons in the park" one? I must listen to more. I do feel guilty about hijacking this thread, and I wish to reiterate my admiration for the poem that started this whole thing off! It's very clever, Dave.

Thank you Eric - praise indeed. :-) I have to say you were right in the first instance to criticise my grammar. It's something I constantly grapple with although the simple omission of an apostrophe is something I rarely overlook. As for the previous post - don't worry. She can cope with my acerbic comments.
