ABC, speed of

Still not working properly. If it takes 5 minutes to load, people will lose interest. How are we going to get our million hits?

Roy, I haven't loaded anything up lately but I have struggled to access any story on the site since the weekend. I managed to get into the last ten today but only managed to read 2 poems before it all went awol and timed me out again. I appreciate that I could probably adjust my browser to try for longer but frankly, as reinardina says, waiting 5 minutes a time is mind numbingly boring. I could not even get far enough into the site to read your story which I must have missed in the first place. Some people must be getting access since I notice there are hits - not many - on the stuff submitted today. I have not even managed to read a story of the day this week. I'm sure John's Handelbar moustache is working on it in binary school and all will be resolved soon. They do :-) They're making major changes so will take a little while - huge apologies but we are on it. Anyone noticed that the forums have speeded up though? Cheers Emily

no it's not you fey. I haven't been able to read the last ten tonight - it keeps timing out -and have found the site generally goes in fits and starts for the last week. mainly fits.

I have just spent the last 20 minutes trying by various means to read something on this site. I searched for authors sucessfully then but could not read when I clicked the on the story. I tried the last ten entered 4 times and failed to load each time. this is the only part of the site available to me right now yet on other nights I have had trouble getting in to the forum but can read stories/poems ok. a right old stir fry recipe for John and his whok.

I emailed Emily last week about this, and apparently the sheer volume of stuff on the site is causing problems. It got a bit better for me over the weekend, but today.. I only got here by putting ABCtales into the search - none of my favourites would connect at all.. just kept grinding on endlessly. I still can't get to either the poetry or story areas, not even from the front page. This is serious.. or it will be (for the site) if loads of people give up in disgust and don't come back!

I've found exactly the same thing as everyone else. I hope it gets sorted - I'm directing people here, and could be left with egg on the face! Emily, please get it sorted! BTW - is there a way of seeing how many hits your story has taken without actually causing another hit yourself?

chris, click story gallery, then by author, then 'c', then 'next' until you find your name, and it should show your stuff and times read. bookmark the page although this will change as material is submittted and deleted from the site.

OK everyone - got techies looking into it - very sorry and clearly something is wrong in the works. We *will* sort it! Think it's probably down to the 'story counter' thing as there are so many of them. Chris, sadly, no. It would need huge amounts of techy tweaking which would cost more money than we can afford. I've noticed, this past week, that my "hits" are the lowest since joining the site.. and it's getting worse! Sure, people could be wising up and reading better stuff - but still.. three hits since last Wednesday, on 43 entries.. it would suggest that potential readers just can't get through. Has anyone else noticed this, or is it just me?
