Poor Brendon Fearon

Poor Brendon Fearon. He's the burglar shot by farmer Tony Martin. You'll remember, of course that the other burglar, Fred Barras was shot dead by Martin, who is still serving a five-year sentence (reduced, thank God, on appeal from life) for defending himself and his property.

Anyway, poor Fearon. Not only did he have to serve 18 months of a three-year sentence for burglary (on top of being shot), but the whole sorry business has so traumatised him that he's been unable to find a job.

Now forgive me for being a tad cynical here, but Fearon has never held down a job anyway, and is in fact a career criminal with 34 convictions. So presumably, the £15,000 compensation he's seeking is because the poor bloke can't carry on with his crime spree. Or have I missed something here?

I find myself wondering that if the boot were on the other foot and Martin had decided to rob the Gypsy's household, would he too have met with violence? For if so, they have nothing to complain about. Would he even have been met with extreme violence?

We'll never know. Unless, that is, someone decides to burgle Fearon's dwelling.

My personal view is that you should have a perfect right to defend your family and your property in any way you see fit. Even if that means shooting the fuckers. It's their choice after all.

We had a similar case here, in Denver, though the shooter shot as the burglar was already running down the alley (ie, the burglar wasn't technically in the house). The burglar was paralyzed from the waist down, spent time in the pen, then wheeled his way right back into a convenience store and robbed it. He didn't even have an electric wheelchair, though the police noted that the thing got going pretty fast downhill. At any rate, the burglar sued the gun-wielding homeowner (I can't remember if it was pre- or post-wheelie armed robbery). He lost, interestingly enough. Sounds like an urban myth, doesn't it? But it's not; I read the article myself (and, as we all know, anything written in the newspaper must be true). As I live in a culture of guns, I do wonder if a man's life is worth the goods he might make off with during a burglary. Granted, finding a stranger in the house would probably prompt anyone to shoot first and ask questions later (because, let's face it, it may not be a burglar but a psychopathic killer looking for fun). And what about booby traps? We had another case in which a store owner, tired of being burlarized in the middle of the night through a vent door on top of his roof, rigged up a shot gun. If the vent door was opened, it pulled a string attached to the gun's trigger, and...well, you get the picture. Let's just say the burglar lost face. The store owner was charged, went to jail, etc, etc. Hmm. Merry Christmas, anyway.

"Even if that means shooting the fuckers" Go along with that. Compensation culture.............................uurrrggggghhh Don't agree that it was right for the store owner to set a trap tho. It could be kids mucking about who get the blast in the face.

I smell a rat here! The non-appearance of the 'lets be nice to everyone, even if they are robbing bastards' lobby is akin to the fabled roaring silence. Come on out, wherever you are, there are murderers, muggers, rapists and thieves that need your protection.

Thrash them soundly with the Daily Mail.

Oh dear, I can't help feeling Karl is being deliberately provocative. Still, it will brighten up an otherwise boring Xmas.

Deliberately provocative? Moi? Not at all. I'm sure Fearon had a particularly tough upbringing, which I'm sure is all society's fault. Well, probably my fault actually for reading the ..... whoops, nearly gave away what newspaper I read. It's obviously mine and society's fault why he can't carry on his criminal career. In fact, perhaps I should give him the money.

I hope that he wins his case and is awarded 1p in damages. To hear the bleeding heart liberals talk you would think that he had a perfect right to enter other people's property and nick stuff. If I ever catch him in my house I will part him from his genetalia with a rusty bread knife, and make hit eat them. The fact that the law protects criminals is repugnant. The fact that people choose to live outside the law then run and hide behind it when it suits them is even more so. String 'em up I say.
