a Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket
Anyone ever read any of these. Technically they're for kids but I was curious if anyone here has read them?
I read the first the other day and am still wondering if I liked it.
I liked it, not much too it tho. Perhaps it gets better.
I don't know. I thought it was quite funny in a very bleak way (I love the way he explains complicated words to kids without patronising them). Don't think I'd read it to my kids though, think kids today have enough to worry about without imagining that they're going to be sold for marriage to some old miser and locked in a tower. Sorry, read it a long time ago but that's what happened isn't it?
One of the few contemporary writers who really cares about language, in my opinion. He reminds me of Philip Ardagh. Trouble is, they are both all language and no trousers. And no story, I mean. (Story being the trousers of fiction.)
