Ounces or Grams

Can anyone give me a definitive answer (or less-definitive) as to why Cocaine is measured in gram weights and cannabis in ounces?

Is this because hippies were so stonned they never caught on to decimalisation?

Or is it just because cannabis is sold in larger physical quantities?

google let me down on this one!

Hmm, the only thing I can think of is that it's easy to weigh an ounce - because a penny weighs a sixteenth and a two pence coin weighs an eighth. And, as you say, cocaine needs to be measured in much smaller quantities unless you are in Motley Crew. The more accurate electric scales use grams while the old school hippy scales are more rudimentary and use weights. Why do you ask? Joe

Just under two grams, I think. 3.8 grams in an eighth. Ish.

Harry Kerdean A teenth is 3.5, this is because drug 'ounces' are actually weighed at 28 grams, I think that they do cannabis in eigths etc because that's how it's always been, though some people do sell it in grams, especially weed, which you're bloody lucky to get a weighed eigth (it's normally about 3 grams but called an eigth).
