Quoting?

If you want to use like an old rhyme & you don't know who wrote it, is it ok to just quote it & then write your poem underneath?

As long as your conscience is clean, feel free. Many a good song is inspired by another good song. Sometimes certain lines could be used in a different context, I sppose if it was like an old poem that has inspired you and you want to let people know then I wouldn't have a problem with an author i was reading doing it. Thats not to say everyone would agree, some people are fussy, but like I said if your conscience is clean.

Until we feel our thoughts our thinking remains unfelt

If it is an age old nursery rhyme then I don't see a problem in that. However, if the rhyme has been through copyright you could get into trouble for using it. I really don't understand why you would want to do such a thing though? Surely the point of this site is to share what is yours to share! I love reading poems and stories on here because they seem raw and unknown. It's almost like I am reading another person's diary. Even though I know there are others reading the same piece as me, somehow it feels as though I am the only person who has read it! To add a famous verse to your own work could make it lose that appeal, (or at least it would for me). It's up to you really. Good luck! :-)
Well, it was a little song, maybe copyrighted, I just made up more to add to it, I think though I will try & make my own version of the first part aswell. Thanks for the advise Auntie-Ann & Will Kx
