How this woman can possibly have the neck to even think of appealing against her dismissal is unbelievable. Is nobody responsible for anything anymore?

Shy

To be honest I don't really understand why people should be sacked for things generally. Whatever mistakes were made, they should be learnt from. if you remove the people who were there when the mistakes were made then how can the organisation learn from them? As soon as anyone makes a mistake there's calls for their heads! It's usually a knee-jerk reaction and more about a desire for some "justice" than about improving systems or anything that might actually stop this sort of thing happening again.
Rubbish.

Then let's sack everyone who makes mistakes then! I'm just sick of blame culture when people who are genuinely trying to make a difference in a horrendously difficult and undersupported profession are then villified. And as far as the doctors go, I don't believe Sharon Shoosmith was responsible for them - different department. Did people get sacked for that? I'm not saying she was free from blame but I don't think simply sacking the person at the top is always the answer. The mum and the others involved are the really bad ones here and went all out to hide what was happening. Mistakes were made and chances missed but most people have no idea what being a social worker is like and the case load they have to deal with, along with the limited means they have at their disposal. The problem is with the way it's run. And I can't see how massive council cuts are really going to help.
