Stephen King
Calling aspiring writer's everywhere: Read Stephen King's-A memoir of the Craft--"On Writing." I'm not a great fan of his novels, but I couldn't put this book down. There's so much to glean from his perspective and advice on writing. I think it's a must for reading.
I read the book and enjoyed it greatly. I've not read anything else by King (I've tried many times), however I found this book interesting and helpful.
There are many criticisms levelled at King, some of which are valid and some undoubtedly smack of the 'tall poppy' syndrome. This book was so utterly sincere and inspirational because it spoke of a writer who oozes passion; he could not have done anything else with his life. I never tire of hearing writers write about the painful, sweet and exhausting process of writing. It makes me feel as if I've come home.
Talking of inspiation to writing, I think the greatest book on the subject is Wild Mind by Natalie Goldberg.
I read it at one sitting, and still keep it handy. I use it to get me going if my mind tires.
Please, read it.
