Does anyone else like her poetry? I love it, I even nicked my name out of "Valentine"!
yep..Duffy is indeed a fabulous writer. Her book "selected poems" is never far from my bedside. I think its having a raging affair with Brian Pattens "Love Poems"
Words, wide night is one of my favourites, as is "Litany"
The line: "A tiny ladder ran up Mrs Barr's American Tan leg, sly like a rumour."
Marvellous.
Yup I, too am a fan of Carol Ann Duffy. Just recently got her Selected Poems out of my univeristy library. I agree with Liana that it is an oustanding collection. I love 'Valentine' and 'Miles Away'. I love the line 'I have got your mouth wrong, but it still smiles'. Within the context of the poem it is absolute genuis.
Mind you will have to take the book back to the library soon as I have to get books out on Weber and Luther and what not. I hate doing a history and politics degree! :-)
I still chuckle about the saucy abc user who posted up "Valentine" as his own work and never responded to my email pointing out that people here do sometimes read a bit of poetry.
Did he? Oh, the cheeky sod! Full marks for trying though, eh?
Love her work.
My favourite poems of hers so far, going from the GCSE anthology and what I have read on the internet are Valentine and Warming her Pearls. I have yet to buy any of her books, I can't decide which one to get! Any ideas?
