Word Trivia
Liana once playfully caught me out by challenging me to find a word that rhymed with the word Orange. Well, do you know that there are actually three more words in the English language that rhyme with no other?
They are Month, Silver and Purple.
So while we're on the subject of words, here's a couple of tricky questionsrdssp for wordsmiths:
1) There is one word in the English language that ends in the letters "mt." Any idea what it is?
2) Bearing in mind the average person's left hand does 56% of the typing, what is the longest word that can be typed using the left-hand side of the keyboard?
3) And what is the longest word that can be typed utilising the right-hand side of the keyboard?
In the West Wing, in a game of poker, the President starts throwing these sort of things out - words in the English language that begin with 'dw' and it is cheating to use your dictionary.
1) dreamt
And the longest word using the top line of the keyboard is keyboard.
"Dreamt" is correct, Rokkitnite, well done.
I didn't know that about the word "keyboard". That's interesting.
Any ideas on questions 2 and 3?
You can't spell keyboard with the top line, you can spell Typewriter though.
Nice to see the Uni education going so well.
Ha ha ha :O) brilliant!
I never even checked.
Silver
Chilver - a female lamb
Month
Conth
Never heard of a "purple nurple"??
Then there's the "Serpell Report" into the state of Britain's railways (proper name, though, maybe not admissible).
And, in a world of free verse, even a near-rhyme is sometimes welcome:
"The evening sky turned purple;
It was time to feed my gerbil!"
Well, perhaps not.
*after a curry*
"That Burp'll smell for a bit"
'You can't spell keyboard with the top line, you can spell Typewriter though'
Can't spell keyboard, eh? We'll just see about that...
