I have to say, when I read ' Her skin painted by time' yesterday, I didn't like it. Don't get me wrong - nothing so to do with the way it was written - no. Purely the subject matter I found, disturbing and yet, strangely, 'Her skin untouched........" didn't have the same effect and I found myself comparing how I felt about the two versions of the same 'story' - very cleverly written I might add. I guess the question of 'censorship' depends largely, on the limits we set for ourselves, or are already, if you like, 'preordained'. I have no idea at all, why I found the idea of an older man being obsessed by very young women more acceptable than a younger man being obsessed by much, much older women. Interesting writing - extremely thought provoking and original. Ty SSS

ty SSS for your comments. I wonder if you found the second piece less offensive because of the way we connect youth and beauty in our culture, despite that fact that this piece should clearly be distasteful i actually found it easy to write, as you say old woman and sexiness just doesn't feel right, but why? I almost felt that Nora 70 years was more vulnerable than Rosa 13 years. http://www.abctales.com/node/552596 skin painted by time http://www.abctales.com/node/552618 skin untouched by time Juliet

Juliet

Clever, clever, clever! Contrast: "I loved the way she tucked her red hair laced with grey behind her ears, revealing her waddle, my fingers itching to trace the loose and lined skin. I loved the way she tucked her red hair laced with gold behind her ears, revealing her pale neck, my fingers itching to trace the firm and unlined skin." I think "waddle" should be "wattle", though. I prefer the "painted" piece, as the love for very old women is relatively uncharted territory and allows a huge scope for a slightly cruel and comic tone: "my tongue eager to wrap around her best pair of teeth." Not to mention the ending ... just read it! We're in "Last Of The Summer Wine" territory here, but why not? Today's grannies are the ones who often just missed out on the sexual revolution of the sixties and believe me some of them are making up for it!
Veyr good read. thanx.
ty Neil and Sky - you are right it is 'wattle' - have changed it. Juliet
