this is clearly written by someone who understands the anxiety experienced by children who have neurological deficits in attention. I think many, many parents will recognise aspects of their children in this, and it is a wonderfully positive message about learning to cope with being different.

Juliet

I would like to be your beautiful-bad-boy, Juliet. I thought this was well written and thought-provoking, but I didn't like the opening: "Louis was a nice boy, but he was misunderstood." HED KEEQUAI

and i'm sure you are Yan :) but i just checked with my husband and he said no - oh well. I get the first line, Louis means to be good, wants to be good but everything he does ends in strife, because his brain doesn't work the same as the other kids. So his mum could see the good but no one else could - i think? Reckless? Juliet

Juliet

Yeah, I get it, but I just think 'nice' is like, fancy cakes or something...nice nice...dunno...it just appears, kinda..how can I put it? You know!?! HED KEEQUAI

Thank you to you two for taking the trouble to comment! That's very nice. There's that word again. Yes, I can see why some would object to it, but it's hard to think of a suitable alternative, that would be fre from ambiguity ("good" for example, too ambiguous, contrary meanings, doesn't make sense.) But yan, if you suggest something that fits, I'll change it. And Juliet, got it in one. The intention and the outcome are different with Louis, sometimes polar opposites. How hard it can be to struggle to make your intentions a reality, when the relevant pathways of the brain skewer and divert it. I've known a couple of children like that. Thanks again.
Lovely? There's nothing worse than a neighbour with crap wind chimes

Yes, OK, that's good. It takes an objective onlooker ..... I'll change it now. Cheers.
