DJ's

i wonder if you can help ... i am entirely clueless about this (it being music related of course)

but i am supposed to be doing a project involving spoken word, music and djing

of course i don't know first thing about DJ's - so does anyone have any idea how a clueless person might find one of these elusive creatures?

or does anyone know one who might be interested in working on a spoken word project?

cheers

I dont even know if DJ's really exist anymore out of radio... i feel a bit like me grandma these days. Havent been to a 'do' for years. Do they still have those blokes who blow into mics and say one two?
i don't know ... apparently in clubs and stuff? ... god see ... i don't know anything ... last time i saw one i must have been 15 and it was the cricket club disco ... he had two record players ....
I used to know one called Nick who drove a reliant robin. He loaded his decks into the back of it, and then played Le Freak and Boogie Oogie Oogie to 15 year olds in lipgloss at the firestation social club. Have times changed Fish?
Is the project acually about DJing - or do you need a DJ as the project will have music in it? Djs these days usually turn up with laptops and press a button.

the project is going to include spoken word and music ... is part of the phrased & confused promoters development scheme (google if you have nothing better to do) so i want to get writers to work with a dj and some musicians ... a kind of live onstage whatsit ...
I had a quick google, but I am making potato curry, and getting ready to go out - so you are putting on a live event? Sounds good. Like the Mark Gwynne Jones thing on the podcast? Have you any theme for it? If you come to Tripod launch, tell me more.

You could always give 'tastydisco' a call, I'm sure Paul Greco is still doing his thing!

http://www.myspace.com/ralphieloveplusone I could help here. I've done a few of these Fish. You (as you no doubt know, just need some tunes to compliment the event). I'll do it for a chip butty and and pint of Guinness. let me know. Best, Ralph

Another thread just reminded me of a good spoken word/music site where you can listen to sound files: www.ubu.com. Just scroll to the sound bit and there's loadsa performance stuff with sound, etc. Might help your direction. There's nothing more mind-teasing than the incomprehensible eagerly avowed - Dennett
