Doctors' Code

I read this in a Sunday paper recently and I roared. Anyone who has ever been referred to a consultant should understand.

QUESTION

Whenever my GP gives me a referral letter to take to a consultant, it begins with the words 'This pleasant lady...'. Clearly, this is doctors' code. What is your opinion?

ANSWER

It means that you are polite and unassuming and therefore can safely be left hanging around in the waiting room without causing a fuss, while 'This confident lady...' (demanding bitch), 'Difficult case' (hypochondriac), and 'would benefit from your full attention' (borderline lunatic) are given priority.

There are lot of acronyms, I believe, too. Isn't there one NFKL, Normal For King's Lynn? These go on patient charts and the like.
