What is Talecatching - it's a genre mystery to me
I ask because I truly do not know. Is talecatching tales like Rudyard Kipling's 'How the Camel got his Hump'. I like Kipling's 'Just So Stories', the basis of The Jungle Book movie. Or is it stories which use reported speech in a way which gives the testimony of others. Any other definitions?
I need to know in order to complete my Abc collection Jeannie's Potatoes.
I think that 'Talecatching' refers to an outreach activity that the site operated at its inception by Tony and the other founders. It is a method of empowering socially challenged individuals in the community by engaging with them to tell their stories. It's a sort of trawling of stories that exist at the margins of society and making them public - hence the name. I could of course be way off here elsie but that is my understanding of the 'genre'.
Interesting, thanks for this Scratch, it is a definition that makes sense.
I now need to write four more and Jeannie's bag is full
Thanks for that, scratch...I'd always wondered, too. And thanks, elsie, as well
Scratch is right. It was operative for the first few years of the site, but sadly is no more.
