Aztec by Gary Jennings

Read "Aztec" about 20 years ago. I remember I couldn't put it down. Haven't read his latest though. I learned about the Aztec's in 5th grade and for awhile immersed myself in their history. It amazed me how such a great civilzation could be wiped out by some 300 Spaniards under the indomitable Cortez. Of course, disease and other factors helped his conquering quest. "Aztec" is purely fictional with a lot of historical facts to make it good reading.

Yep i thought it was a rollicking good adventure. Reminded me of the tv show "I Claudius" i think this would have made a good film or mini tv series.
