I've only read a few paragraphs flipping through it in the book shop. The prose looked awful, but I can well understand the appeal of the subject matter. It is something I personally find fascinating, and I've read a number non-fiction pop-history books on a similar subject, including The Passover Plot, which was a massive bestseller in the 1960s. I have read this book and I enjoyed doing so. I can't see why so many think it poor quality. It tells a story clearly, in plain, simple English, is exciting and thought provoking, was well received by the public and became a best seller. What more must an author do? In fact I have read and enjoyed all his books though I found the last one a little tedious. As to insulting any faiths....well that and conspiracy theories no matter how far fetched has become so commonplace now that I don't suppose anyone even gave it much of a thought. I wonder what Dan Brown is going to make of the latest revelation about Judas Iscariot?

I haven't read it but I did read one of his other books on holiday and thought it was appalling - laboured prose, cliched characters, too much time trying to impress you with his research and a "mystery" which was blatantly obvious to anyone who can do a crossword. But by then my wife had bought it, so what does he care that he's a crap writer? And even if he didn't technically plagiarise the Da Vinci Code, it's simply rehashing an old controversy.

I wasn't really interested in reading this but was given a copy today to read. I am really enjoying this so far. I like the simple way it is written & I've learn't a lot of interesting trivia. In this fast world you sometimes need fast food and a fast book to shock the senses awake. A good read so far.

Thought it was great, couldn't put it down. Looking forward to the movie. I did begin 'Angels and Demons' but, due to all the juicy science fact-bites in the first few pages, I went on a mad science bender for about a year, digesting everything I could quantum and I still haven't gotten round to finishing the book.
