the shawl little ditty
Fine poem. There is a touch of mystery-it`s comparable to looking at a snapshot of a stranger
I couldn't agree more with both previous comments - except to say that if a poem could be tangible - this one would be woven from the finest silk. Ty SSS
It was the ending that did it for me:
fraying tassels trailing the back of your chair;
a fluttering around your shoulders before it gets there.
Those lines left me with something very real but also made me feel a bit empty and sad. Excellent, LD -
Foster.
Gorgeous - love how the shawl's not just another piece of work to sell to tourists but imbued with meaning and mystical charm
Juliet - thank you for flagging - i am glad you enjoyed it. I'm just back from India and this poem and 'Blessing' now hang in his shop. Foster, SSS, neilmc and Gilbert - thank you for the things you have said - borderline cheeesey sentimental cliche touristy travelog - i worried - your comments, and i see a cherry, have given me a boost - cheers!
Is it anywhere in Goa by any chance? Lot of Kashmiri traders there, men who can appreciate jewellery, embroidery, fabrics and intricate craftsmanship in a way most Western men don't. Took me back there!
(Yes, Goa, he was near Palolem. Approaching Monsoon season has closed everything down and people are heading back North - would have loved to go with to Kashmir! *sighs*)
this is a beautiful poem. Excellent.
