John Bird For Mayor?
That's according to a Rad4 programme. Would he make a good mayor? More to the point, is it time tosser Livingstone was dumped in favour of a man with fresh ideas?
Yes. Livingstone is spiteful and arrogant and self seeking. His choice of car is congestion exempt (funnily enough) and in the event of a bird flu outbreak, he and his cronies are among the first entitled to Tamilflu (ridiculously unlikely but it's the principle) - its all rather a bit too much like a corrupt dictatorship. I still think Jeffrey Archer would make a good Mayor. I know you would want to electrocute me for saying this!

John Bird, I like. Perhaps his past might inhibit him though, but his work over the last few years makes him an excellent doesnt it
Not that it really matters much to me, over in yonderback.

I don't know him on a personal level but in political terms, this is true.
Ken's also my favourite major elected politician in the UK by some distance.
He's made huge improvements in public transport - it's far from perfect now but I remember what it was like relying on buses before 2000.
The congestion charge was huge and necessary political gamble. It's difficult to imagine many other politicians who would have had the bottle to introduce it.
I even like his old-style lefty anti-racist & gay right posturing but that's obviously an acquired taste.
That said, I'd be interested to hear John Bird's specific proposals. He's had some good ideas in the past.
