Kindle?

Has anybody got one? And if so is it any good? I"m thinking of getting one but it's so annoying that you can't try it out anywhere. I'm not even sure you can order it from amazon and then send it back if you don't like it - not once you've opened it

I'm afraid I only have second hand information; however a chap at work is very pleased with his. He's had it a little while but seems to be getting on very well with it. Sorry can't be more help...

thanks dave. Have you actually seen it? one of the things that I want to know is how grey the screen is - I know it's not backlit and I'm worried it'll be hard to read

Haven't seen it myself, I'll ask Rob tomorrow if he'll bring it in... I'll let you know how I get on...

Hi, spoke to Rob today; he's confirmed that the reason for no backlight is that it is designed to work under reflected light, the brighter the better. I don't fully understand the technology, but he did point out that his case actually comes with a built in light for helping when ambient light levels are low. If you want to assess the interface there's a Kindle app that you can download and run on your PC so that you can at least get an impression of how it works. He's very happy with his; uses it a lot; in fact he's come close to convincing me that it's time to do away with all those old fashioned piles of paper... :-) Hope this helps All the best Dave

thanks very much Dave. I didn't know there was a kindle app - I'll see if it gives me a clearer idea. I like the idea of being able to carry books around with me in something so portable, and I have totally run out of room for any more real books in my house. It was very helpful, thanks again
