eastern Europe
Has anyone read any good travelogues about eastern Europe lately? I've been able to find two: one by Anne Applebaum (the name escapes me) and Tony Hawks' Playing the Moldovans at Tennis. Any suggestions would be appreciated!
Have you read "My War Gone By, I Miss It So"?
Its very good...abt a young British journalist in Sarajevo.
Im writing a book, called "Fragmented Conversations" about my travels through Serbia in 99, and 2000.
Hopefully, it will get published someday.

Oh yeah .. that reminds me - Sarajevo Nights - great book!
'My war gone by, I miis it so." is an interesting book but not a travelogue.
Will definitely read your 'Fragmented Conversations.'- Liana
Avra - again not travelogues but good interesting reads
Dubravka Ugreic - The Culture of Lies
Andrew Baruch Wachtel - Breaking a Nation - Making a nation
Noel Malcolm - Bosnia A short history
Peter Maas - A story of WarTim Judah - The Serbs
Tell me what you think.
And another
Vladimir Jokanovic - Made in Yugoslavia
Not particulalry well written - or perhaps its the translation - but interesting.
And again - not a travelogue -
Don't know that one, Carly - details please.
Liana,
I just saw your message. Thanks for the suggestion.
Congratulations on your book--it sounds very interesting. I'll look out for it in the years to come (I know these things take a while :)
All the best,
Avra
Gabrielle,
Thanks very much for your suggestions also! I'm still getting the hang of these boards :)
I just got back from Prague, so am slow picking up on threads :o)
I will also check (resisting the urge to write Czech) out those travelogues mentioned above...
Until and IF Fragmented ever gets published, you might want to check out some of my writing on here. A lot of the belgrade prose is in the collections
Cheers
Liana
