This is beautiful Span, might be my favourite of your poems on here...
That is because you are such a love.
It is a bit clumsy and I think boring to anyone who is not me.
So I am pleased you like it.
Holding out for gingerbread!

Hello Nikaya!
Now confused.
The gingerbread reference was a bit stupid really.
Just cos I know the lovely lady who posted the thread and it was random sort of private half joke about how gingerbread men are better than real boys.
sadly though the gingerbread had nothing to do with the poem.
Does the poem confuse you?
span x
Not that it should matter, you may criticise away.
But the gentleman with the pipe was my grandfather, the love is books and Jeremy is my uncle.
My grandad repeatedly tried to teach me Latin, and more or less failed due my ignorance and lack of perseverance.
He was trying to cultivate some sort of passion in me for culture.
It worked, just not immedietly.
Edits always welcome.
If it is confusing then it needs it.
Thanks,
Span x
Fish swim up for food but dolphins swim up for air.
I like the idea of delayed passion slowly perculating to suit a more refined palate - I'm sure this poem would be to your grandfather's taste.
Does anyone else ever wish that Spack would change his name slightly... or maybe you could become spin, span :o)
If I changed my name to Spick then we could be spick and span, the cleanest duo in poetry.
When I first came on ABCtales I thought:
"wouldn't it be funny to have a slightly offensive name like Spack - yeah, it sure would be funny"
...and now, four years later, in the words of Stephen Morrissey "this joke isn't funny anymore" but I can't be bothered to change it; I have a reputation to live down to.
Joe
Glad you got the joke, Joe. Although Spack and Spin sounds quite tidy too :o)
