Translated Accounts / J Kelman
Anyone else read this?
Reading a lot of his stuff just now and seen him recite some poetry recently. #1
I'll get my coat, shall I...?
I haven't read Translated Accounts - I've read a couple of things - without really liking them. Kelman is one of those writers you appreciate (you can't help but love the guy for the surly way in which he treats the "establishment") without wholeheartedly enjoying.
He makes you work, you know?
He's teaching on the writing course I'm starting in September at Glasgow Uni, and I'm a bit intimidated. Can't help thinking he'll be just as surly in person, though he could be a pussycat I suppose.
It surprises me that he'd teach writing (expect him to be of the "either you are or you aren't school") - maybe he will be a pussycat, maybe he stores up all of his bile for - those most in need of it . . .
Now I'm really scared.
hey, alex, if you can bothered, post some of the things he say on the site. I'd love to know what he says.
Don't be intimidated, look forward to it.
I suspect he's teaching for the money though, not a love of students.
