Nicola Edgington

From the Daily Mail
'A string of police blunders meant a psychiatric patient and convicted killer remained free to commit murder.

Just before knifing a woman to death, Nicola Edgington rang 999 four times from a hospital begging to be arrested.

A simple check would have told officers that she had stabbed her mother to death in 2005, but no-one accessed the Police National Computer and a crucial opportunity to section her under the Mental Health Act was missed.'

When will the police actually use the records and information at their fingertips? Are they all jobsworths and when will they be punished for their inaction.
This poor, screwed-up woman, who pleaded to be taken in before killing, was treated like a crank caller.
After doing her evil deed, which could have been stopped if the police had consulted her files, she now faces 37 years in prison, which will cost the taxpayer at least £2 million before the legal start sucking their cut out.
Do you think this term of imprisonment is justified and should the police be reprimanded for gross misconduct?
It seems to me that they only seem to be interested in anti-social behaviour, threatening poverty-stricken families ad geneerally feeding their own pitiful little egos.

It seems the only people who get away with murder these days is the police!! and the taxman, but then I would kill that bastard! I heard about this story on the news today and I think given the fact she tried to prevent the act she commited, this should be taken into consideration with her sentence. The police are out of touch with society I feel. although I do not envy there position or there job, no one appplaudes them when they do get it right.
She pleaded for help, they laughed in her face, she decapitated a woman, they incarcerate her. Democracy at its all-time worst.

Poor woman

Hmmmm, the police certainly have a very tough job, and it's possibly too easy to criticise them when something goes wrong. In this situation they had the information at their fingertips and should have reacted. They fucked up. However, they also offer a vital service to society and it's too much of a generalisation to say they're out of touch with socity as a whole. Blimey, they're stuck right at the shit end of society! Without knowing anything else about the case; Nicola Edgington killed her own mother seven years ago and decapitated someone else recently. Poor woman, bollocks! Poor victims and families more like! We'll be feeling sorry for Venebles & Thompson and Al Qaeda next.
